Chicago Restoration Questions and Answers
Do I have to use the restoration company my insurer recommends?
No. It’s your choice who restores your property, even if your insurer suggests another company. If you choose us, we bill your insurance company directly, and if you can’t reach your agent, we report the loss to your insurer in writing for you.
Can my business stay open while you restore it?
Often, yes. Depending on the damage, we can work through the night and around the areas you still need, so you can stay partly open and keep serving your customers. Other business owners have kept operating while we restored their space.
Can you start repairs before my insurance settlement is final?
Often, yes. Once you approve the repair plans, we can start the work while the claim wraps up, so your property doesn’t sit damaged any longer than it has to. You still have the final say on every settlement offer.
Why is there smoke damage in rooms the fire never reached?
Because smoke travels well past the flames. It drifts through the building, so the damage often spreads beyond a single room or even a single floor. That’s why we inspect every room, check the walls, ceilings, and floors by sight and by touch, and clean every surface the smoke reached.
Is it safe to go back inside after a fire?
Not until the fire department clears the building. After that, we inspect the structure, arrange an electrical check, and give you our best advice on when it’s safe to go back in. Don’t turn the gas or power back on yourself until the utility company says it’s safe.
Can you save my finished basement after it floods?
Often, yes. We use thermal imaging and moisture meters to find the water trapped behind your walls and under your flooring, then dry the space back to its pre-flood moisture levels. That helps keep your finished walls and floors from swelling, buckling, or growing mold after the surface looks dry.
Will the mold come back after you remove it?
It shouldn’t. Mold needs moisture to grow, so after we contain the area and remove the mold, we find the leak or high humidity that fed it. Before we close up any walls, we make sure the leak has stopped and the humidity is back to normal.
Can you repair the damage after an ice dam leaks into my house?
Yes. We open up the affected walls to dry them out properly, repair the drywall and finishes, and handle the roof repairs that stop the leak. We can also suggest changes to your roof that make another ice dam leak less likely next winter.
What happens to the belongings you can’t save?
We document them for your insurance claim. We test your belongings on site to see which ones we can restore, and for anything we can’t, we prepare an itemized list that shows each item’s age. That way you aren’t stuck listing everything you lost while you handle the rest of the recovery.
