Insurance Claim Management
What It Means to Have Restore Construction Working With Your Adjuster
An adjuster’s visit goes more smoothly when the damage is already documented. Our estimators walk the property, record the damage in each room, and prepare an estimate your adjuster can review line by line, so you can focus on everything else the damage disrupted.
We write our estimates in Xactimate, the estimating software used by 22 of the top 25 property insurers in the U.S., so our numbers arrive in a format most adjusters already use, which means less back and forth.
How It Works
What to Expect From Our Insurance Claim Management
Your claim moves through a few stages, with you, your adjuster, and our team each handling a different part of it.
We inspect and document the damage
We go through the property with you, photographing and measuring the damage in each room, including damage that isn’t obvious at first glance.
We send our estimate to your adjuster
We write a room-by-room repair estimate, submit it to your adjuster for review, and answer the construction questions that come back about it.
You decide on the settlement offer
Your adjuster reviews our estimate and the damage, and any settlement offer comes to you. Whether to accept it is always your decision.
We manage the approved repairs
We can start the repairs as soon as you approve the plans, even before your insurance settlement is complete.
Your Duties After a Loss
What Does Your Insurance Policy Ask You to Do After a Loss?
Most property policies ask you to take a handful of steps after damage, and we help with several of them.
Protect the Property
Your policy expects you to keep the damage from getting worse, so we board up openings and start drying out water as soon as we arrive.
Report the Loss
You report the damage to your insurer and mortgage holder, and our walk-through gives you the details of the damage to share.
Get a Written Estimate
Your insurer needs a written estimate of the repairs, and our estimators prepare a detailed one that breaks the work down by area.
List Your Damaged Belongings
Your insurer also needs a record of what you lost, and our estimators prepare an itemized list of the belongings we couldn’t restore.
Complete a Proof of Loss
Many insurers ask for a sworn proof of loss, and our estimate and inventory give you a written record of the damage to work from.
Arrange the Repairs
Once you and your adjuster agree on the scope, the choice of who makes the repairs is yours, whether that’s us or another company.
Family Operated Since 1983
Our Story
Patrick L. Santoro opened Restore Construction in 1983, and he shares the leadership today with his sons, Patrick M. and Michael.
Over more than four decades, we’ve worked alongside insurance companies, adjusters, mortgage lenders, and city officials on property damage claims across the Chicago area.
Today that work runs through our estimators, who are based here in Chicagoland and know the two-flats, apartment buildings, and high-rises that make up the area.

Services
Restoration Services for Your Claim
Most claims involve several kinds of work, such as emergency protection, cleanup, contents cleaning, and the rebuild. We handle each of those, so your claim and your repairs move forward together.
Our specialty
Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration
We tear out what the fire destroyed and rebuild the structure, so your home or business looks like itself again.
Emergency Board-Up and Securing
Our crews board up and protect the building right after the damage, so less rain and snow get inside while you start the claim.
Board-Up and Securing →Water Damage Restoration
We remove the water and dry the structure quickly, so we save more of your floors and walls instead of replacing them.
Water Damage Restoration →Contents Cleaning and Storage
Our contents team cleans and stores your belongings during the repairs, so they’re out of the way and cared for until your property is ready.
Contents Cleaning →Reconstruction and Repairs
We manage the rebuild once you approve the plans, so the company that wrote your estimate also oversees the repairs.
Reconstruction →Storm Damage Restoration
Our crews dry the rooms a storm leak reached while we handle the roof repairs, so your home or business is usable again sooner.
Storm Damage Restoration →Biohazard and Trauma Cleanup
We handle biohazard or trauma cleanup, so you get a clean space back without facing the hardest part of the recovery.
Biohazard Cleanup →Mold Removal and Remediation
We remove the mold that followed the water damage as part of the same job, so your repairs don’t wait on a separate remediation project.

Insurance Claim FAQs
Chicago Insurance Claim FAQs
Who writes the repair estimate for my claim?
There are usually two. Your adjuster writes one for your insurer, and our estimators write one for the repairs, which your adjuster then reviews.
Why might your estimate differ from the adjuster’s?
Usually because more damage turns up than the first inspection showed. We document what we find and share it with your adjuster, so they can see where the two estimates differ and why.
In a building with several units, whose insurance covers what?
Usually the building’s or association’s policy covers the structure and common areas, while unit owners and tenants insure their own belongings and, often, their unit’s interior finishes. The details depend on the policies and, for condos, the association’s declaration, so check both. We document the damage unit by unit, so the record for your building is clear.
Can you help with my business’s insurance claim?
Yes. We document the damage to your building, equipment, and contents and put together a repair timeline, so you can tell staff and customers when to expect you back.
Should I call you before or after my adjuster’s visit?
Before, if you can. We walk the property with you first, so you know what the damage includes by the time the adjuster arrives.
Which insurance companies do you work with?
All the major carriers. We work with whichever adjuster your insurer assigns to your claim, whether the damage is to a home, a multifamily building, or a business.
Not An Emergency?
Tell Us About Your Disaster
Share what happened and whether you’ve opened a claim yet, and a project coordinator will follow up about the estimate and next steps.
Damage getting worse?
Our emergency crews can limit the damage first, which keeps the repairs smaller.
We answer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
