Storm Damage Restoration
How We Handle Storm Damage Outside and In
Storm damage rarely stops at one part of a building. Wind and hail can damage the roof, siding, gutters, and windows in the same storm, a fallen tree can break through to the framing, and rain or snowmelt can soak the insulation and walls inside. We handle the outside and inside repairs on one plan, so you aren’t coordinating a roofer, a cleanup crew, and a drywall contractor on your own.
Our crews board up the broken windows and doors and handle the cleanup and drying inside, and we manage the roof, siding, and structural repairs that follow. When ice dams damaged one home during a hard winter, our team kept the work areas as clean as possible and followed up by text and phone until the job was done.
How It Works
What to Expect From Our Storm Damage Restoration
Our storm damage restoration runs in four stages, and we secure and dry the building before any of the permanent repairs begin.
We secure the property
Call us any time, day or night. Our crew typically arrives in about an hour to board up broken windows and doors, and we cover the roof openings so the next storm does less harm.
We document all the damage
With your permission, we record the damage to the roof, siding, and windows and to the attic, ceilings, and walls below them, so you and your adjuster see how far the storm damage reached.
We clean up and dry the inside
Our crews clean up inside the building, pull out soaked insulation and drywall, and dry the structure, so the repairs start on dry, sound materials.
We manage the repairs
We handle the roof, siding, window, and structural repairs first, then rebuild the ceilings, walls, and floors inside, so the interior work goes into a weathertight building.
Common Causes
What Are the Most Common Causes of Storm Damage?
Severe weather hits Chicagoland in every season. Each type damages a building differently, which shapes what we secure first and what we repair.
High Winds
Strong gusts tear off shingles, peel back siding, and pull gutters loose, and a single storm can damage several sides of a building at once.
Hail
Hail bruises and cracks shingles, dents the gutters and siding, and can break windows and skylights in a storm that lasts only a few minutes.
Fallen Trees and Limbs
A tree or heavy limb can crash through a roof or wall and damage the framing underneath, leaving a large opening to the weather.
Heavy Snow and Ice
Heavy snow weighs down roofs and gutters, and ice dams along the eaves push meltwater under the shingles.
Heavy Rain
A downpour can send more water than gutters or a worn roof can handle, and it often shows up first on top-floor ceilings.
Wind-Blown Debris
Strong wind can pick up patio furniture, trash cans, and other loose objects and drive them into windows, siding, and doors.

Our Story
Patrick M. and Michael Santoro lead business development and operations at Restore Construction, the company their father, Patrick L. Santoro, founded in 1983.
We’ve worked through decades of Chicago storms, floods, and hard winters with homes, apartment buildings, and businesses.
Those years have taught us to look past the spot where a storm broke through, so we check the rest of the building before we plan your repairs.

Storm Damage FAQs
Chicago Storm Damage Restoration FAQs
What’s the first thing to do after a storm damages my property?
Stay clear of downed power lines and report them to the utility or 911, and keep out of rooms where the roof or ceiling is open or sagging. Then call us, and we’ll secure the openings and start the cleanup.
Why is there a water stain on a ceiling far from the storm damage?
Because water travels before it shows. Rain that gets in at the roof can run along the rafters and inside the walls and come through a ceiling some distance away. We trace it back to where it entered, cover that spot, and dry the areas it reached along the way.
If only a few shingles blew off, do I need to deal with it right away?
Yes. Even a small opening can let rain into the attic insulation and down inside the walls, sometimes before a ceiling stain appears. We cover the opening and check the attic and ceilings below for trapped water.
Can you handle storm damage at more than one of our properties?
We have before. After one round of severe summer storms, we cleaned up flooding and backups at 10 buildings for a single school district. Tell us about each property, and we’ll plan the response across them.
What should I do if a tree falls on my house?
Get everyone out of the rooms under it, and call 911 if power lines came down with it. Once the tree is off the building, we close up the opening and manage the framing, roof, and interior repairs.
Will my insurance cover the storm damage?
It depends on your policy. Flood damage typically isn’t covered unless you carry separate flood insurance, so check what your policy says about storm damage. We document the storm damage for your adjuster, including where the weather got in.
Not An Emergency?
Tell Us About Your Disaster
Noticed a new ceiling stain or a cracked window after the storm passed? Describe what you’re seeing, and a project coordinator will call to go over next steps.
Rain coming through the roof?
An open roof lets in more water with every rain, and the damage inside grows with it.
